Abdominal pain is the number one cause of a walk-in center visit. The causes can range from the stomach flu or an obstruction, to heart burn or diverticulitis. The most common cause of acute abdominal pain in children is gastroenteritis, commonly known as the “stomach flu” or “stomach bug. ” A few of the most common symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, generalized weakness, and stomach pain. While especially common in children, adults are susceptible to gastroenteritis as well. And while most cases tend to last only a few days, acute gastroenteritis can last for weeks or even months if the underlying causes are not treated properly.
