Leland Wessel, MD
Dr. Leland Wessel was born and raised in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. HIs home town was twinned with several similarly-sized cities around the world one of which was Arles in Provence, France. Dr. Wessel spent several summers in Arles as an exchange student in high school where he developed his language skills and furthered interest in the history and culture of France. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania double majoring in French Literature and Biology. He spent a semester studying culture, politics and theatre at the Sorbonne in Paris. He graduated magna cum laude and attended the University of Pennsylvania Medical School thereafter. He completed his first post-graduate year of training in Internal Medicine at a UCLA-affiliated hospital, then went to UCSD where he completed his residency in Clinical Preventive Medicine. During his residency he also completed a Master in Public Health at San Diego State University. with an emphasis in Health Promotion and Epidemiology
He has practiced in primary care, occupational medicine and urgent care settings his entire career, first as a partner at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, and then at San Diego State Student Health Services and now at Marque Urgent Care.
He is now semi-retired, enjoying caring for patients of all ages and backgrounds at Marque. He particularly appreciates Marque’s forward-thinking approach to the delivery of high quality care through the use of technology in the form of medical care through virtual means. He lives in Hillcrest, San Diego, with his husband of 30 years, Dane, and their two Scotties, Audrey Mae and Travis. He enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling, and cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
