What We’re Seeing in the Clinic Right Now

Every season brings its own set of health concerns, and March is a time when we often see a mix of late winter illnesses and early spring conditions. Many patients ask what kinds of symptoms others are experiencing right now, and understanding common trends can help people know when it may be time to seek care.

Here are a few of the conditions our providers are currently seeing most often in the clinic.

1. Seasonal Allergies Beginning to Spike: As spring approaches, seasonal allergies start to increase across Southern California. Pollen from trees, grasses, and other plants can trigger allergy symptoms in many people.
Common symptoms include:

      • Sneezing
      • Runny or congested nose
      • Itchy or watery eyes
      • Scratchy throat
      • Sinus pressure

Allergies can sometimes feel similar to a cold, but they usually do not cause fever or body aches. If symptoms persist for more than a week or are interfering with daily activities, a healthcare provider can help determine whether allergies may be the cause and recommend treatment options.

2. Lingering Respiratory Infections: Even as winter winds down, many people are still dealing with lingering coughs, congestion, or fatigue following a respiratory illness. It is not unusual for a cough to last several weeks after a viral infection. However, symptoms such as worsening cough, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, or fever should be evaluated. In some cases, a lingering illness may develop into bronchitis or a secondary infection that requires treatment.

3. Sinus Infections: Sinus infections are another common concern this time of year, especially following colds or allergy flare-ups. When sinus passages become inflamed or blocked, pressure and infection can develop.

Symptoms that may suggest a sinus infection include:

  • Facial pressure or pain
  • Thick yellow or green nasal discharge
  • Headache
  • Congestion lasting more than 7 to 10 days
  • Fever or worsening symptoms after initial improvement

Our providers can help determine whether symptoms are related to sinus inflammation, allergies, or a bacterial infection.

4. Youth Sports Injuries: Spring is a busy time for youth sports, and we often see an increase in minor injuries as children return to regular practices and games.

Common injuries include:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Jammed fingers
  • Minor fractures
  • Overuse injuries
  • Concussions

While many injuries are mild, it is important to have persistent pain, swelling, or limited movement evaluated to ensure proper healing and a safe return to play.

5. Flu A and Flu B: Although flu season typically peaks earlier in the winter, we continue to see cases of both Flu A and Flu B in early spring. Symptoms of the flu can come on quickly and may include fever, body aches, fatigue, cough, sore throat, and headache. Testing can help confirm the diagnosis, and early treatment may help shorten the duration of illness in certain cases. Patients who experience severe symptoms, difficulty breathing, dehydration, or prolonged fever should seek medical care.
If you or a family member is experiencing persistent symptoms, worsening illness, or new concerns, getting evaluated can help provide answers and relief.

At Marque Urgent Care, our providers are available to evaluate a wide range of conditions, including respiratory symptoms, sinus infections, flu, minor injuries, and more. Understanding what is circulating in the community can help you stay informed and take steps to protect your health this season.
