If you’re sick with symptoms of an upper respiratory illness including fever, cough and shortness of breath, or you have recently traveled by airline or similar mass transportation from any areas with sustained community transmission (China, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Iran, Europe, United Kingdom, United States) within the last 14 days, DO NOT come into one of our medical clinics before speaking with us first. Our COVID-19 live support number is (949) 617-3995. It’s open 7 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm. Our medical team will be able to assess your risk and direct you to the right care. If testing is deemed necessary, it’s covered under your insurance plan. If you have additional question you can also text us at (949) 629-4664.

All patients that visit our clinics will be given a temperature check at the front entrance using clean instruments. Those with a cough and/or fever will be tested for the flu.

• If the flu test is positive, the patient will be granted entry to the clinic at the discretion of the on-duty provider and the risk for COVID-19 infection.

• If the flu test is negative, and the patient has a fever and/or cough, we will direct the patient to do one of the following at the discretion of the on-duty provider:

1. Patients with a fever but test negative for the FLU and ARE NOT recommended for COVID-19 testing, should self-quarantine until the fever resolves plus an additional 24 hours.

2. Those that ARE recommended for COVID-19 testing by our medical team, will be directed to the proper testing facility based on their location and the recommendations of the Local Public Health Department

• If you develop chest pain or shortness of breath, please dial 9-1-1 or go directly to the Emergency Room.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”If we determine that you should be tested for coronavirus, please note that our protocols are as follows:” style=”simple”]1. Appointments: (As testing kits are in short supply, please call us first before making an appointment). Marque Medical providers will be available for pre-scheduled coronavirus testing appointments at our Rancho Santa Margarita and Buena Park locations for Orange County, and University Town Center and Chula Vista for San Diego. Please refer to the below maps for testing times and directions. Please call us first to make sure we have testing kits available.

2. Place of Testing: If you made an appointment specifically for COVID-19 testing, the test will take place at your car outside the clinic as a convenience to you and to avoid potential spreading to other patients. The provider who confirms your testing appointment will direct you to meet at a designated spot outside the clinic. We will administer a flu test as a first step. If you do not have the flu but are symptomatic of COVID-19, we will administer the COVID-19 swab test. Do not proceed inside the clinic or to the waiting room under any circumstances. 3. About the Test: The test for coronavirus requires both a nasal and prevention oral swab, a quick and painless procedure, which is the official coronavirus testing protocol for the Orange County and San Diego Health Department.

4. Test Results: Test results can be expected within three to five (3-5) days of your test appointment. You will be called by a Marque Medical clinician at the mobile number that you provide us. If you are not available to accept our call, we will leave the results of your test on your voice mail and send you a message to the email address on file. Please not that Marque is not a lab and we cannot control the timeframe of results.

5. Mandatory Self-Quarantine: While you are awaiting the results of your test, you must confine yourself to your home for the three to five (3-5) day period while our lab conducts the test. This is for the safety of our community and is the policy of the CDC. For the safety of all our patients, until test results are known, patients with suspected coronavirus may not receive clinic appointments or be able to spend time in the clinic. If you have a primary care provider, we will notify them of your testing and results with your permission.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance – spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19)” style=”simple”]The CDC has issued guidance for preventing the spread of the virus in the community. It directs individuals confirmed to have 2019-COVID, or who are being evaluated for infection, to remain isolated at home and not to go to work, school, or public areas. These individuals also should not use public transportation or taxis until a healthcare provider or health department says they can return to their normal activities.

Individuals who have had close contact with someone who is (1) confirmed to have the virus, or (2) are being evaluated for infection, are directed to monitor their health for 14 days and watch for symptoms, including fever, coughing, shortness of breath or difficult breathing, and other early symptoms (such as chills, body aches, sore throat, headache, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, and runny nose). The CDC notes that fever will not necessarily be present for all infected individuals.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How to protect yourself” style=”simple”]There are currently no vaccines available to protect you against human coronavirus infection. You may be able to reduce your risk of infection by doing the following:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• In the absence of soap and water, use hand-sanitizer.
• Use a tissue or the inside of your elbow or sleeve to cover coughs and sneezes.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”How to protect others” style=”simple”]If you have cold-like symptoms, you can help protect others by doing the following:

 

• Stay home while you are sick and keep your children home if they are sick.
• Avoid close contact with others.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
• Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.

Please note: The Level 2,3,4 Areas may change at any time, per the CDC and WHO guidelines.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Letter from our Medical Director” style=”simple”]As you are all undoubtedly aware, there is a global outbreak of a new virus, the Corona Virus 2019 or CoVid-19. It is an extremely contagious virus that spreads easily from person to person and often before they feel any serious or significant symptoms. In most people this illness, which is much like a common cold, will be mild and self-limiting. For others, the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, this can be a much more severe and serious infection. Even the young and healthy can become seriously ill and even die. As this situation develops and the virus undoubtedly spreads, we must do all we can to mitigate and contain the spread of this illness. It is controllable with our own personal efforts.

Here at Marque Medical, we are earnestly developing protocols and policies that allow us to continue to see patients safely, while not exposing our providers, staff and patients to this infection. We are working closely with our local public health departments to keep our patients and our communities informed and up to date on this ever-changing situation.

The solution to combating this outbreak is our own efforts to prevent transmission of the virus to others:

1. Wash your hands frequently and especially after using the restroom or touching common area surfaces.
2. Do not touch your mouth, nose or eyes with your unwashed hands.
3. Social distancing of > 6 feet whenever it is possible.
4. You will need to offend your friends and acquaintances because NO HAND SHAKING or CHEEK KISSING!.
5. Avoid public gatherings and public places as much as possible while the infection is active and still apparently spreading in CA and the US.
6. If you become ill, especially with a cough and fever, stay home and call your Health Care Provider. You can call (949) 617-3995. We can help you to determine if it is safe for you to be seen in one of our facilities or do you need specialized CoVid-19 testing elsewhere.
7. Cover your cough and sneezes by using a handkerchief or Kleenex or the “crook” of your elbow (the germ jail).
8. Avoid contact with anyone who is currently ill.
9. Always stay well rested and hydrated.

The current situation does not call for panic or hysteria. It does call for common sense and to follow the advice of Health Care providers, the CDC and Public Health Departments listed above to control, contain, mitigate and stop the spread of this virus. It has not taken hold in our communities and does not have to if we are diligent in following the infection control precautions outlined.

We are at war with a virus. It is a war we can win. But we need every one of you to help, now. Here are some things you need to know, and do:

Thankfully, about 99 out of 100 people who get COVID-19 will recover, although it may take many weeks.

This is a dangerous virus, and everyone in our country is affected by it. Many will become ill, some only mildly, but often with a painful, exhausting infection in our lungs and viral pneumonia. Some of us, and some of our loved ones, will die. Sadly, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Health care workers and first responders are our most precious resource. Check by phone or online before you go in for care if you’re sick – many health centers and hospitals have separate, safer entrances. If you do go for care, cover your mouth when traveling to and within health facilities. Health care workers must come first- including for treatment and a vaccine, and, if there are shortages, for face masks. That way, health staff will be there for us when we need them.

There are some things all of us must do now. And, whatever happens, we must continue to do these things. These include:

• Wash your hands often. Before you eat or drink or touch your face if your hands may be contaminated. After you touch anything that may be contaminated.
• Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue that you throw out, or with the crook of your elbow. Then wash your hands.
• Don’t go out if you’re sick. If you have cough or fever and need to get health care, wear a surgical mask, bandana, scarf or other piece of clothing over your mouth.
• For the foreseeable future, stop shaking hands.
• If you’re over 60 or have a health condition such as heart disease, lung disease or diabetes, stay home. There’s a virus out there, and you’re at a much higher risk of dying from it. And that’s not just a terrible tragedy for you and your family – it will take up health care resources that may be scarce.
• Your personal health is your choice, but the health of others is not. You may feel healthy, but if you get infected you can pass the virus to others who are more vulnerable. You owe it to them not to get infected so you won’t infect them. And you owe it to all of us to do your part in stopping the spread of this virus.
• Physical distancing is important. Crowds amplify the spread of the virus. For the time being, stay six feet away from just about everyone.
• Take care of your emotional wellness. Be physically active. Enjoy nature. Connect with friends, family and others – by phone, video or other safe ways. Remember that, bad as this is, it will pass, and we will be stronger.
• The virus spreads from people who are infected and from contaminated surfaces. That’s why it’s so important that people who are infected are physically isolated, why we must improve how we clean our hands, and why we must sanitize frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs.
• We hope and wish there will be an effective treatment and a vaccine against this virus. As of today, there is no scientific evidence that any medicine works, and a vaccine is likely to be many months or even years away.

We are all in this together. That means supporting your local health department and checking cdc.gov for the latest information and recommendations. And supporting protection against microbes around the globe, because, bad as this pandemic is, there will be others in our lifetimes. Future pandemics are inevitable. What’s not inevitable is that we will be underprepared.
