Fractures and Sprains
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The breaking of bones can occur at any age and from a variety of reasons. Sports related fractures can affect the younger and the active population, while osteoporosis is responsible for many hip and leg fractures that occur in the aging population. The five most common fractures in adults are of the ankle, hip, wrist, arm, and collarbone or clavicle.
Not all fractures are easily diagnosed, as in the case of an open fracture. In an open fracture the broken bone can be seen sticking out of your skin. A closed fracture is a break underneath the skin. In a closed fracture an X-ray is needed to see the extent and exact location of the break.
Another form of fracture is known as comminuted fractures, which are fractures where part of the bone fragments into splinters. Regardless the age or the cause of the fracture, Marque Medical can quickly get you in for a digital X-ray in any of our many locations to be evaluated by our highly skilled X-ray technicians and doctors.

- Collarbone or Clavicle
Fractures are diagnosed by X-rays that can be taken and read at the clinic on-site.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Pediatric Bone Care
The number of children in sports is continually increasing, and with that comes an increase in the number of sporting injuring for children. More than 3.5 million children are treated for sport related injuries, and the number seems to be climbing.
Fractures in pediatric cases can be unique and are a concern due to the fact that the child may still be growing. Bones do not grow from the center outward, but instead from areas of cartilage called “growth plates” located at the ends of bones. The long thin bones of the body, such as the femur, fibula, and tibia of the legs, the radius and ulna of the arm, and the metacarpal bones of the hand. When a child fractures the growth plate of a bone there is a risk of the bone not healing probably and the growth of that bone being impacted. The fracture of growth plates in young patients are called Salter-Harris fractures.
When a child gets a Salter-Harris fracture the goal is to avoid growth plate arrest. Fast and accurate evaluation of the fracture is key to proper treatment. At Marque Medical we can stabilize the fracture, and with our digital X-rays we can give you a clear picture of the extent and location of the fracture which can be quickly sent to an orthopedic specialist.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Bones are connected by tissue called ligaments, whereas muscle to bone connections are through tissue called tendons. A sprain is when the ligaments are torn or stretched beyond a certain point. Similar to a sprain, a strain is when the you tear or stretch a tendon or the muscle. These types of injuries are very common in everyday life, but especially so for those involved in sports and who are physically active.
Sprains and strains can be very painful and are most often there will be swelling. Icing the affected area is the first step in treating a sprain. Compression and elevation also assist in relieving the swelling and pain associated with a sprain. Braces can help compress and stabilize the sprained area making movement more tolerable. It has been shown that while resting a sprain is necessary, tolerated movement and stretching actually helps you get back regular activities faster than complete rest.
In sever sprains and strains it may be necessary to get an X-ray to evaluate ligament damage. In these instances it may be beneficial to go through physical therapy to speed up the recovery process. All Marque Medical locations have on-site digital X-rays. The results are evaluated quickly by our physicians and X-ray Technicians so a recovery plan can be prescribed for you. In cases where physical therapy may be recommended or desired, we have multiple locations with experienced Physical Therapists for your care and convenience.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
